BJJ Guru: How To Do A Takedown From The Knees In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

|

A common question I receive from many beginners and even some higher level belts in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is how do I take a person down from a kneeling position. At the majority of BJJ academies there is limited space to do takedowns during rolling sessions. By allowing takedowns from a standup position one would put every student at risk of serious injury. I have seen people get thrown into another group of people rolling nearby. The unfortunate result for one student was a trip to the hospital to receive stitches on their forehead.

To be safe the majority of bjj professors elect to have students begin rolling from the knees. To illustrate a couple of takedowns from the knees I have put together a little video tutorial for you today. I hope you enjoy it and it helps you out.
