Gunnar Nelson has been forced out of his UFC 160 preliminary bout with Mike Pyle due to injury. Stepping in on short notice for Nelson will be Rick “The Horror” Story.
UFC officials announced the match-up on Wednesday.
Story (15-6) was on the fast track to a welterweight title shot with six straight victories, unfortunately he then tasted two straight losses to Charlie Brenneman and Martin Kampmann. He has then gone on a 2-1 run picking up victories over Brock Jardine and most recently Quinn Mulhern at UFC 158 this past month.
Pyle (24-8-1) is riding a three-fight winning streak, with all three victories coming in the first round. Most recently Pyle picked up a TKO victory against James Head at the TUF 16 Finale this past December.
The Story vs. Pyle fight is expected to take place on the FX portion of the fight card.
UFC 160 will go down on May 25 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The main event will be for the UFC heavyweight championship as Cain Velasquez will take on Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva. Also announced for the UFC 160 card is former heavyweight champ Junior dos Santos vs. Mark Hunt.
