Super Fight League introduces in between round scoring

|

This Friday at Pearls SFL 16, the Indian based organization did something that could potentially revolutionize the sport of mixed martial arts. They introduced in between round scoring, so the fighters know where they are at heading in to the next round.

At the moment the judges calculate their scores and report, but in the long run the overall goal is to have a software in place so the fans can see the judges scores in real time.

For instance this past weekend’s UFC on FOX 7 main event between Benson Henderson and Gilbert Melendez was score 48-47 on two judges in favor of Henderson, but on another it was 48-47 Melendez. If this software was in place the fans would have seen round by round how their favorite fighter was doing.

The folks at Ingrained Media are behind the idea. They have been outspoken about the need for a change in the scoring system. Even last weekends loser Gilbert Melendez is on record saying that judging needs to change and it seems like Ingrained said the same thing back in 2011. Check out their blog about it HERE.

It looks like they finally have someone listening to the idea and although it is still in its infant stage the real time scoring system could be a huge step forward for MMA as a whole.
