UFC heavyweight fighter Cheick Kongo may have seen his last time in the octagon. At UFC 159 it was Kongo’s final fight on his current UFC contract and he was knocked out by Roy Nelson in the very first round.
Earlier this morning Kongo’s profile was removed from UFC.com which usually means something is up. Later in the day, MMAFighting.com confirmed with UFC officials that the UFC 159 fight was Kongo’s last fight on his contract and that they were not interested in re-signing him.
Kongo (11-6-1) has been with the organization for nearly seven years and has had his ups and downs. At one point he was on a four-fight winning streak, but since has gone on a 1-2 run.
His two losses came to Mark Hunt at UFC 144 and most recently Roy Nelson at UFC 159.
Kongo’s most memorable fight inside the octagon was when he had a come from behind knockout victory against Pat Barry at UFC Live on Versus 4 in June 2011.
