Chris Camozzi steps in for Costa Philippou to take on Jacare at UFC on FX 8

|

An injury has struck the UFC on FX 8 card, as Costa Philippou suffered a cut during training. Stepping in on short notice to take on  Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza is California’s Chris Camozzi.

UFC.com announced the match-up on Friday.

This could be a fight in which Vegas odds will be in your favor. If you are interested in betting on MMA fights, then you could be a money maker in this middleweight showdown.

Camozzi (19-5) is coming off a split decision to Nick Ring at UFC 158. The former TUF competitor is currently riding a four-fight winning streak dating back to January 2012.

He will look to stun Jacare in front of his home country of Brazil.

Souza (17-3-1NC) is on a three-fight winning streak most recently defeating Ed Herman at the final Strikeforce event in January. “Jacare” last lost at Strikeforce: Barnett vs. Kharitonov in September of 2011 when Luke Rockhold took home his Strikeforce middleweight championship.

Camozzi was previously slated to take on Rafael Natal, but due to the switch, Natal will now take on UFC newcomer and late replacement Joao Zeferino.

UFC on FX 8 will go down on May 18 in Brazil. The main event is between Vitor Belfort and the aforementioned Strikeforce middleweight champion Luke Rockhold.
