The UFC’s return to Milwaukee, WI appears to have had another fight added with reports of a featherweight bout pitting “The Diamond” against “New Breed.”
While the UFC has not confirmed the bout, both Koch and Poirier have confirmed the fight via their Twitter accounts following an announcement from MMAWeekly.com.
Dustin Poirier (13-3) is coming off a recent loss to the resurgent Cub Swanson at UFC on Fuel TV 7 back on February 16, 2013. A well-rounded fighter with ample finishing ability, “The Diamond” has reeled off 5 (T)KOs and 6 submissions, including a pair of Brabo Choke victories over Pablo Garza and Jonathan Brookins. The 24 year old American Top Team Product will be looking to avoid the first back to back losses of his career with a win over Koch.
Erik Koch (13-2) is also coming off a loss earlier this year, being TKOed by Ricardo Lamas at UFC on Fox 6 on January 26, 2013. An anomaly at his home camp of Roufusport, “New Breed” has 7 submissions to go along with a trio of (T)KOs finishes. The 24 year old 145er is at a similar point in his career, and hopes to avoid the first losing streak of his career as well.
UFC 164 is scheduled to take place on August 31st, 2013 in Milwaukee, WI, and is tentatively headlined by a featherweight bout pitting Team Alpha Male member Chad Mendes against Jackson’s MMA energizer bunny Clay Guida. Also scheduled is Brandon Vera vs. Ben Rothwell, marking Vera’s return to heavyweight.
