Mike Brown takes on Akira Corassani at UFC on FOX Sports 1 1

Former WEC featherweight champion Mike Brown decided to hang up the gloves in 2012, but has decided to come out of retirement to take on Akira Corassani at UFC on FOX Sports 1 1 in Boston.

UFC officials announced the fight on Friday.

Brown (26-8) is coming off two back-to-back victories – most recently he defeated Daniel Pineda at UFC 146 in May 2012. Prior to the two decision wins Brown went 2-4, which was the worst run of his career.

Corassani (11-3-1) was a part of The Ultimate Fighter season 14 and lost in the semi-finals. He was expected to fight in the finals against Steven Siler, but was forced to withdraw due to injury. He then went on to make his UFC debut at UFC on FUEL TV 5 in September 2012 where he picked up a split decision victory over Andy Ogle. He also won his sophomore bout against Robbie Peralta at UFC on FUEL TV 9 in April.

UFC on FOX Sports 1 is expected to take place at the TD Gardens in Boston, Mass. on August 17. No main event has been set for the FOX 1 card, however UFC President Dana White has stated that it will be the best free card on network television.
