Benson Henderson vs. T.J. Grant lightweight title match confirmed for UFC 164

|

The most flexible man in the UFC is now set to defend his title against the fighting pride of Cole Harbour, NS.

The UFC has confirmed that Benson Henderson will defend his lightweight title against T.J. Grant at UFC 164 in Milwaukee, WI.

UFC lightweight champion Benson “Smooth” Henderson (19-2) has been making a case to be on the pound-for-pound top ten list since entering the UFC. Currently on 7 fight winning streak, the 155 lbs. kingpin has been taking on the best in the division and managing to come out on top, most recently against the last Strikeforce LW champ Gilbert Melendez at UFC on Fox 7. A dynamic striker with strong wrestling and perhaps the best submission defense in mixed martial arts, the brand new BJJ black belt will be taking on one of the few fighters in his division that are larger than him. Will “Smooth” be able to make it four successful title defenses in a row?

Cole Harbour, NS product T.J. Grant (21-5) has been with the UFC for quite some time now, but it wasn’t until he made the cut down to lightweight that he became a force. Currently on a five fight winning streak that culminated with a first round knockout of perennial contender Gray Maynard. A grappling ace with 13 submission victories to his name, Grant has also developed some nasty power at lightweight. His last two victories were stoppages via strikes, including the aforementioned Maynard KO. Will he be able to bring his skills to bear against the lightweight champion and bring the belt home?

UFC 164 goes down at the BMO Harris Bradley Centre in Milwaukee, WI on August 31st. The main event is currently set to be a lightweight championship match between Benson Henderson vs. T.J. Grant. For more on UFC 164 and other upcoming cards, stay tuned to MMASucka.
