Dana White confirms Jon Jones vs. Alexander Gustafsson as UFC 165 main event

|

It’s official: “Bones” will be taking on “the Mauler” in the main event at UFC 165 in Toronto, Ontario.

Dana White confirmed this via his Twitter.

Jon “Bones” Jones (18-1) is the UFC’s light heavyweight champion and one of the faces of the company. An almost freakish-ly large 205er, Jones uses his long reach to dissect opponents from range before moving in to the clinch and taking them down en route to ground and pound or submissions. With his only defeat coming from a questionable disqualification, he has managed to steamroll his way through the old guard of the division. Will he be able to maintain his record against the young Swede Gustafsson?

Alexander “the Mauler” Gustafsson (15-1) is another member of the UFC’s new school at 205 lbs. A lanky striker with a solid jab, the Swede has also been working to improve his wrestling, a weakness that led to his only defeat against Phil Davis in 2010. Since then, “the Mauler” has been on a tear, winning 6 in a row, including two solid decision victories over Thiago Silva and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. Will his run continue at the expense of Jones and gain him the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship?

UFC 165 will take place on September 21 from the Air Canada Center in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
