Hector Lombard vs Nate Marquardt scheduled for UFC 166

“The Great” will meet “Lightning” on October 19th in the latter’s welcome to the welterweight division at UFC 166.

Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting.com revealed the details on this bout earlier today.

Hector Lombard vs Nate Marquardt scheduled for UFC 166

Hector “Lightning” Lombard (32-4-1, 1 N/C) came into the UFC from Bellator Fighting Championships surrounded by hype. Unfortunately, Cubo-Australian got off to a rocky start, going 2-1 for the promotion in three fights so far. A former Olympic judoka, the heavy-handed Lombard likes to bullrush his opponents when possible in order to secure an early finish. Will he be able to do the same at welterweight to an opponent like Marquardt and get his career back on track?

Nate “The Great” Marquardt (32-12-2) is on his second stint with the UFC, returning to the promotion as part of the Great Strikeforce Absorption. A middleweight for most of his first tenure with the promotion, Marquardt’s initial stint ended after he failed to both make weight in his welterweight debut and seek a therapeutic use exemption for radical testosterone replacement therapy. After a year of wandering, the former King of Pancrase finally landed in Strikeforce, going 1-1 before losing to Jake Ellenberger in his first bout back with the big show. Will the grappling ace be able to snap his two-fight losing streak and permanently stop the hype train of Lombard?

UFC 166 is scheduled for Oct. 19th, 2013 at the Toyota Center in Houston, TX. The main event for this card is scheduled to be a trilogy bout for the UFC heavyweight title between Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos. Stay tuned to MMASucka.com for more on this and other upcoming events.
