Welcome to the latest addition to MMASucka.com, The Sucka Punch 5! Here we ask MMA personalities a series of five increasingly “interesting” questions. Today’s volunteer/victim is Tyson Steele, a Canadian welterweight currently competing in the World Series of Fighting.
The Sucka Punch 5: Tyson Steele
#1) What is your least favourite part of your warm-up?
Honestly, I typically enjoy the warm-ups. It’s the drive to the gym that I dread because I’m usually exhausted on the way there. I always tell myself that once warm-ups are over, then I’ll be feeling great again, which is true. But if I had to pick one, it would be fireman carries of a teammate across the gym. Usually it’s not too bad but once in a while a 320+ lb dude will be in and start looking around for a partner for this. Having to haul that big lug around is horrible.
#2) What submission do you catch most often in training?
In training I catch armbars, kimuras, or triangles the most. I’m not sure if I can choose one that stands out as me landing it the most. It seems like I go through phases of catching a lot of one, then later it will be another and so forth.
#3) what is your most embarassing training accident?
One time I was sparring with a guy and accidentally kicked him in the groin. He said he was fine and brushed it off. It didn’t seem like much of a shot so I didn’t pay much attention to it either. Then literally 20 seconds after, he started getting wobbly and collapsed. Some sort of delayed reaction, I guess? It was embarrassing for having kicked some poor guy in the balls so hard that he fainted, but I’m sure it was much worse for him.
#4) If you could banish one person from MMA, who would it be and why?
I’m not sure there is any way for me to answer this, while avoiding looking like an asshole. So, I will respectively decline to answer this.
#5) Have you ever had to, under any circumstances, share a bed with a teammate?
Yeah, all the time. At events, promoters set us up with one hotel room but there is usually 3 cornermen plus the fighter. What are we to do? Pay for an extra room? Usually I remember to bring ear plugs when this is going on because I’ve learned that most of my teammates sound like wild boars when they sleep.
