A middleweight title fight will headline Battlefield Fight League’s return to the River Rock Casino on September 7, as Leo Xavier squares off against Ryan Chiappe.
Battlefield Fight League released the match-up on Tuesday.
Leo Xavier and Ryan Chiappe clash at BFL 25 for the middleweight title
Xavier (2-0) fought his first professional bout against Jonathan Dubois at a regional event back in 2008. Under previous British Columbia rules, a fighter could apply to go back to amateur after a shot in the pro’s. When “Black Ice” went back to the amateur rankings he racked up a nice little winning streak and captured the BFL welterweight championship. Upon his return to pro, Xavier was granted an immediate title shot against Micah Brakefield and was able to claim the crown via knockout early in the first round.
This fight against Chiappe will be Xavier’s first middleweight title defense.
Chiappe (10-8) is coming off a devastating knockout victory against Aaron Shmyr at Fivestar Fight League 8 in August. The man known as “Ruthless” has been fighting on the professional scene since 2006 and has had a roller-coaster ride to say the least. Chiappe last appeared in the BFL cage at BFL 19 where he lost to current welterweight champion Matt Dwyer.
This will be Chiappe’s fifth appearance in the BFL cage and he holds a 3-1 record within the promotion.
Battlefield Fight League 25 goes down from the River Rock Casino in Richmond, British Columbia on September 7. As MMASucka.com previously reported, Gary Mangat will take on Josh Gow, Jeremy Kennedy squares off with Jordan Mackin and Micah Brakefield steps inside the cage against Jake Asher.
