Carlos Condit finishes Martin Kampmann via fourth round TKO

A rematch almost four years in the making, between Carlos Condit and Martin Kampmann was the featured fight of the night at UFC Fight Night 27 from the Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Kampmann immediately went for a takedown and ended up hitting the inside trip against the cage. Condit went for a couple of different submission attempts off his back, but Kampmann was able to get himself loose. Condit got to his feet, but Kampmann was able to take the back of Condit. As Kampmann was looking for his second hook, Condit wound up taking over the top position. Both men returned to their feet and clinched back up. Kampmann grabbed the double unders and was able to get another takedown with just under two minutes left in the round. When the two returned to their feet, Condit landed a couple of short elbows. Yet another takedown landed with 20-seconds left.

Both men landed some nice inside combinations. A left, right combo was followed up by a Kampmann takedown attempt, but Condit stuffed that. Midway through the round it seemed like Condit found his range as he was able to land his combinations a lot more. “The Hitman” pushed Condit up against the cage with under one minute left and attempted a double leg takedown, but Condit was able to reverse and slip out. As the round ended Condit still looked to be fresh, while Kampmann took a deep breath.

Kampmann pressed forward to begin the third round. Once again Kampmann looked for the takedown and after some effort was able to land it. Condit was able to walk himself up the cage to get back to his feet and look to get his control back. A flurry with three minutes left split Kampmann open right between the eyes. With blood leaking down all over Kampmann’s face, Condit was able to utilize his unorthodox strikes at will. After a flying knee by Condit, Kampmann looked to take the fight to the mat. Condit looked to lock in a deep choke, but Kampmann escaped with a  beautiful roll and Condit transitioned to the back and looked to lock in the rear naked choke. Condit got the mount, but Kampmann was eventually able to work his way back to the feet to end the round.

As the championship round started, Kampmann was able to land a takedown and a shot as Condit was looking to get back to the feet. A right hand followed by a liver shot stumbled Kampmann  and he was able to finish the fight with a knee from the thai plum
