Caros Fodor vs Yang Seung Ho: Just who needs the win more?

|

We are just seven days away from ONE Fighting Championship’s return to Jakarta, Indonesia where in the main event, Phuket Top Team’s Andrew Leone takes on former Shooto champion Shinichi Kojima.

While most fans are set to have their eyes fixed on the outcome of that one, an intriguing encounter between two Lightweights in the preliminary portion of the fight card has got some people talking too.

Caros Fodor vs Yang Seung Ho: Just who needs the win more?

Having fought under the bright lights of Strikeforce and the UFC, Caros Fodor brings an imposing resume to his ONE FC debut. He is, after all, a holder of multiple submission and Muay Thai championship accolades.

Add that with his intimidating facade and you would have, what one would say, a well-oiled fighter in the ONE FC ranks; a signature capture by the promotion in their attempts to improve the 155-lbs division. Suffice to say, he is a protege of “The Wizard” Matt Hume, who has developed multiple world champions to date including Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson.

But does Caros Fodor (7-3) find himself in a situation where he needs a win badly? He is yet to register a victory following two consecutive setbacks under the Zuffa banner. His experience in the bigger promotions may be vital at this stage, but surely he’s not going to underestimate his opponent? It leads me to believe that Fodor needs to snap his losing streak and make a good run in the Singapore-based ONE FC, if he wants another shot at the world’s famous octagon again.

And mind you that task will be easier said than done. Standing in his way is a young, 23-year-old Yang Seung Ho (6-0), who will go to great lengths to remain in the ranks of the unbeaten.

The South Korean has only seen success in all of his six professional MMA bouts, garnering both Pancrase and Martial Combat accolades for his trophy mantle. And if you didn’t know, he trains out of Phuket Top Team, widely regarded as one of the world’s most respected MMA camps. His training partners include the Leone brothers, Bellator MMA’s J.J. Ambrose and Adam Kayoom to name a few.

Despite the positives, however, it is important to note that Yang Seung Ho will be considered the underdog by many, because win, lose or draw, Fodor will still be remembered by the MMA community. The question is, can the same be said of Yang Seung Ho? The South Korean fighter remains an unknown commodity in the Asian MMA scene, which is probably why he needs to get this victory. It won’t be just “any win”, because having a name like Caros Fodor in your victory resume could actually be a good thing.

How does Matt Hume Train, Manage Caros Fodor while being matchmaker for the One FC?! Doesn’t seem ethical

  • Wesley says:

I agree. Makes so sense at all.

Also, having that Evolve owner as one of the shareholders of ONE FC? I mean, really?
