A featherweight tilt between two of the division best, Chad Mendes and Nik Lentz has been set for UFC on FOX 9 this December.

Bleacher Report’s Damon Martin broke the bout first and UFC officials later confirmed.

Mendes’ (15-1) lone loss was back in early 2012 against the champ Jose Aldo. He has since bounced back by winning four in a row in impressive fashion. Most recently Mendes won ‘knockout of the night’ honors for his third round stoppage of Clay Guida at UFC 164.

Lentz (24-5-2 1NC) is 3-0 since making the drop to featherweight in August of 2012. The decision to make the cut to 145-pounds came after losing two in a row to Mark Bocek and Evan Dunham. At UFC on FX 8, Lentz beat Hacran Dias by Unanimous Decision.

No word as to where the Mendes vs. Lentz bout will take place on the fight card.

UFC on FOX 9 is expected to go down from the Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, Calif. It will be headlined by Anthony Pettis looking to defend his strap for the first time against Josh Thomson. Also announced for the fight card is a bantamweight scrap between hometown favourite Urijah Faber and Michael McDonald.
