This fight had the makings of a striking battle that lead to one man being knocked out. However, given the skills Schaub has at his disposal, he seemed to be looking for something different. He was shooting for takedowns early, but was unable to score the takedown early, till he got Mitrione in the clinch against the fence. Once he was able to get his balance right, Mitrione hit the deck, hard.

After that, Schaub would have his way with Mitrione, transitioning and looking to set up a submission. Schaub was able to move into a dominant position and slid the arm in. Once that happened, Mitrione’s time in the octagon was short lived. Once Schaub was able to lock in the second arm and choke him, Mitrione had no chance of recovering. Schaub was able to score the d’arce choke submission victory in just the first round.
