Khabib Nurmagomedov defeats Pat Healy in one-sided unanimous decision

The first bout of the night featured UFC veteran Pat Healy and up-and-comer Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Both men came out swinging for the fences. Both men possess good striking and were not scared to try and go for the finishing blow early. Healy came in with some good leg and body kicks, while Nurmagomedov landed a solid flying knee right on Healy’s forehead. Both fighters demonstrated great boxing and standing defense, but Healy took the most damage in the first, resulting in a cut on his left cheek. The first round went by extremely quickly, with both fighters landing huge blows as the bell sounded.

As the second round got underway, both men went right back at it. Healy came in for a quick combo but ate a few hard shots instead. For the smaller fighter, Nurmagomedov was really able to control octagon and use his strength to try and take Healy down, or at least hold him up against the fence. Healy’s face was pretty busted up by the end of the second, but Nurmagomedov looked gassed as well. The brawling continued in the third, with Healy, once again, getting the worse end of it.

At about the halfway mark of the third, Nurmagomedov executed a running slam, getting the crowd out of their seats. He continued to beat on Healy but was unable to finish the fight. Nevertheless, a unanimous decision at 30-27 on all judges’ is pretty close. Nurmagomedov is ready to move up the rankings in the lightweight division.
