Adam Kayoom met South Korean sensation Bae Myung Ho at Legend FC 3 in September of 2010, making just his second professional appearance in the Mixed Martial Arts scene.
Ho, in the meantime, entered the bout with over 10 fights to his credit, establishing himself as a favorite to garner a victory that night.
Asian MMA Throwback – Legend FC 3: Adam Kayoom vs Bae Myung Ho
And that he did.
Ho (13-5-1) showcased his wrestling prowess in all three rounds, earning takedowns almost at will. The first round may have been in favor of Kayoom (4-1), however, with the Malaysian displaying his Muay Thai fitnesse. Although the majority of the round was spent on the canvas, Kayoom capitalized on his stand-up by delivering some eye-catching maneuvers and vicious elbows.
The South Korean started the second frame aggressively, dishing out a combination of hard punches before shooting for a takedown. Once again, though, Kayoom showed a great defensive guard by limiting his opponent’s attacking options. The Malaysian also seemed to be the more active fighter on the canvas despite fighting from the bottom, but as seen many a times before, takedowns are the ones that usually flicker the judges’ minds.
In the final stanza, it was more of the same for Bae Myung Ho as he continued to pressure Kayoom with consecutive takedowns. The Malaysian looked visibly tired, and seemed content at going to the scorecards. Despite his opponent’s resurgence in the final frame, though, Kayoom had an excellent reversal towards the end, taking his opponent’s back before an unsuccessful attempt at a Rear-Naked Choke.
Bae Myung Ho’s takedowns proved the difference in this great encounter, as the South Korean got his hand raised following an impressive showing. As for Kayoom, it was a great learning experience for the then 32-year-old, considering it was just his second pro MMA appearance.
The Malaysian is set to headline ONE FC 12: Warrior Spirit in November of this year, as he takes on Nobutatsu Suzuki, a Japanese fighter with finishes in all of his 10 career wins.
Ho, meanwhile, was last seen at ROAD FC 012, where he took on Andrews Nakahara in a bout that ended as a draw.
