Urijah Faber cements his position as number one contender with win over Michael McDonald

“The California Kid” Urijah Faber and Michael McDonald squared off for what could be number one contender status in the co-main event at UFC on FOX 9.

Faber opened up with a headkick, followed by a single leg takedown. McDonald utilizing a very active bottom guard game, but Faber continued to throw down body punches and short elbows. Referee Herb Dean stood the two fighters up after a lull in action. Faber landed an overhand right hand and McDonald clinched, but couldn’t do anything with the clinch. With just under twenty seconds left Faber landed a big right hook, followed shortly after by a nice left hook.

McDonald landed a left hook, but it didn’t phase Faber at all. A stoppage in action due to an inside leg kick from Faber that landed low on McDonald. Faber landed a giant right hand that stumbled McDonald, but “Mayday” recovered quick. McDonald landed a nice kick that forced Faber to look for the takedown, but failed. McDonald looked to get a big headkick, but Faber landed a devastating punch that had McDonald back pedalling. Faber locked in the tight guillotine and forced McDonald to tap out.
