UFC heavyweight Fabricio Werdum has stated that he would like to sit out and wait for champion Cain Velasquez to return from injury. However, with Josh Barnett taking on Travis Browne a match-up with the winner against Werdum would make sense.

At the UFC 168 pre-fight press conference one of the media members asked if UFC President Dana White if it was likely for the winner to take on Werdum and his answer was simple, “That is what we are planning.”

“The Warmaster” Barnett (33-6) was, for the longest time, the best heavyweight fighter not in the UFC. That is no longer the case, as he made his return to the big show with a resounding TKO victory over long-time Top 5 fighter Frank Mir. The catch wrestling specialist is one of the most experienced competitors in the 265 lbs. division, and believes he is capable of making one last title run. Will the resurgent Barnett be able to to take the next step towards his championship dreams with a win over “Hapa”?

“Hapa” Browne (15-1-1) is one of the latest young heavyweight to make splash in the UFC.  With finishes in all but one of his UFC victories, the Jackson’s MMA Product has only suffered defeat due to a leg injury sustained within the fight, and has yet to be stopped otherwise.

Werdum (17-5-1) is riding a three-fight winning streak and most recently beat Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira via verbal submission due to an armbar. Over his last ten fights his only two losses have come to former heavyweight champ Junior dos Santos and Alistair Overeem.
