UFC officials announced the match-up on Tuesday.

Rockhold (11-2) was coming in to the UFC as the final Strikeforce middleweight champion and riding a nine-fight winning streak. He stepped inside the Octagon against Vitor Belfort at UFC on FX 8 and was knocked out midway through the first round. In his sophomore UFC outing, Rockhold proved he is still a force to be reckon with by finishing Costas Philippou in their main event battle at UFC Fight Night 35.

Boetsch (17-6) came back with a win, after losing two in a row to Costas Philippou and Mark Munoz. At UFC 166 he C.B. Dolloway, who was a replacement for Rockhold and came out with the split decision victory. The UFC 172 fight will be Boetsch’s first of 2014.

No word as to where on the UFC 172 fight card the Rockhold vs. Boetsch bout will take place, but expect it to serve on the PPV main card.

UFC 172 will go down on April 26 from Maryland’s Baltimore Arena. The main event is a light heavyweight championship bout between Jon Jones and Glover Teixeira.
