Katsunori Kikuno meets Tony Ferguson at UFC 173 in Las Vegas

A new Lightweight bout is on tap for the UFC’s memorial day weekend card in May.

Officials confirmed this week via twitter that a bout between “TUF 13” winner Tony Ferguson (14-3) and Katsunori Kikuno (22-5-2) is the latest addition to the UFC 173 fight card.

UFC 173 takes place May 24th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The main card airs LIVE on PPV following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.

Ferguson (pictured) boasts a 4-1 record under the UFC banner. He was the winner of Season 13 of “The Ultimate Fighter” reality MMA series, where he was a member of Team Lesnar. After a spell on the sidelines for eighteen months, “El Cucuy”, 30, most recently featured at UFC 166 in October last year, securing a first round submission victory over Mike Rio. Twelve of his fourteen victories have ended in either TKO or submission.

Kikuno, on the other hand, is a former DEEP Lightweight champ, who’s coming off a successful promotional debut against Quinn Mulhern at UFC Fight Night 34 in January. On a six-fight win streak with four of those wins coming in the first frame, Kikuno is well-known for his unorthodox karate striking style he imposes on his opponents. He’s been a veteran of the sport for almost a decade.

With that, the updated UFC 173 line-up now includes:

  • Chris Weidman vs. Lyoto Machida (For UFC Middleweight Championship title)
  • James Krause vs. Jamie Varner
  • T.J. Dillashaw vs. Takeya Mizugaki
  • Michael Chiesa meets Francisco Trinaldo
  • Chris Holdsworth vs. Kyung Ho Kang
  • Doo Ho Choi vs. Sam Sicilia
  • Tony Ferguson vs. Katsunori Kikuno
