Nelson started off with his traditional unorthodox style and immediately pushed the pace. After landing a strong right hand that sent his Dagestani counterpart crashing onto the canvas, the Iceland native maneuvered to full mount seamlessly, landing some heavy leather soon after.

Nelson kept the pressure as the bout progressed, landing elbows at will and bloodying up a helpless Akhmedov who was struggling to find any offense.
As the end of the round neared, Nelson slapped on a Guillotine choke, and forced a tap from Akhmedov.
