Yoel Romero’s sturdy Olympic wrestling credentials were on display as he cruised past Brad Tavares for a Unanimous Decision victory on Saturday night in Orlando, Florida.
UFC on FOX 11: Yoel Romero tops Brad Tavares in one-sided affair
Both fighters entered the Middleweight contest off impressive win streaks with the bout looking dead set even on paper, but Romero’s superiority on the canvas made it a lopsided affair in the end.
The Cuban scored an impressive four takedowns in the first round. Tavares was hardly able to get any offense going and was instead forced to succumb to Romero’s grappling prowess.
Romero opened a bloody cut on Tavares in the second frame after an elbow found its mark. Romero’s constant search for hard shots continued but Tavares dealt with them fairly.
Although Tavares attempted to put combinations together in the final five minutes, he was once again overwhelmed by Romero’s wrestling abilities.
Final Result: Yoel Romero def. Brad Tavares via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
