Simply put, Phil Davis was second best at everything he tried to pull off. From takedowns to the striking exchanges, Johnson was always a step in front.
UFC 172: Anthony Johnson obliterates Phil Davis for Unanimous Decision victory
The Light Heavyweights locked horns with one another on the main card of UFC 172, which took place in Baltimore, Maryland on Saturday night.
For the duration of the contest, ‘Rumble’ stuffed all of Davis’ takedown attempts and connected well with shots on his feet. Davis’ offense was limited as Johnson managed to duck and slip past most punches, making it ever-more difficult for ‘Mr. Wonderful’ to string combinations together.
Johnson, on the other hand, was enjoying the adulation of the crowd as he repeatedly tagged his opponent. Constant pressure, strength and accurate strikes eventually garnered him a lopsided and impressive victory in his long awaited UFC return.
Final Result: Anthony Johnson def. Phil Davis via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
