As much as the UFC likes to push Erick Silva, he’s really been very inconsistent since stepping up to the big leagues. Dominance in Brazil isn’t always a guarantee of success, especially in a division with the abyss-like depth of welterweight. Matt Brown knows that first hand, having finally put everything together and gone on a tear at 170 lbs. His durability and killer instinct have gotten him 6 wins in a row over increasingly difficult competition, and I don’t see that streak ending here. Despite Brown’s glaringly poor submission defense, Silva’s had problems with grinders before – See: Fitch, Jon – and his knack for rushing in has gotten him caught and KOed. It wouldn’t be a shock to see that happen again. Don’t be surprised to see Matt Brown score another 2nd round KO.
