|

Battlefield Fight League Welterweight Champion Matt Dwyer has signed a multi-fight deal with the UFC.

The news was announced on Thursday evening.

Dwyer (7-1) is currently riding a five fight winning streak with all of his professional bouts coming under the BFL banner. Most recently he fought back-to-back fights against UFC vets Shonie Carter and DaMarques Johnson. At BFL 27, he beat “Mr. International” via third round TKO and at BFL 30, Dwyer finished Johnson via second round TKO in a bloody back and forth battle.

The Kelowna, B.C. native made his turn to pro after a very successful amateur career back in 2011. His lone professional loss comes to Bellator MMA fighter Marcus “Lelo” Aurelio.

At Toshido, the 24-year-old trains with head coach David Lea, former Ultimate Fighter contestant Michael Hill, as well as a slough of local talent.

UFC officials have yet to announce the signing, but his coach Lea posted the following on his Facebook page.

HUGE TOSHIDO MMA NEWS!!!!! My little gym in Kelowna, BC, Canada first gave the UFC Rory MacDonald, then we gave the UFC Sarah Moras, and now…….We give the UFC Matt Dwyer!!!! Matt is officially the third Toshido MMA fighter to be signed to the UFC! I’m so proud of my team who sweat and bleed for eachother every day! As a team we can accomplish anything! War Toshido!

Dwyer is expected to make his debut this Summer.
