Earlier this month we announced Toshido MMA’s Matt Dwyer had signed a multi-fight deal with the UFC and he now has his debut opponent. Dwyer will step inside the Octagon at UFC 176 against Tristar MMA’s Alex Garcia.
MMASucka.com learned of the bout from sources close to the fighters.
Dwyer (7-1) is currently riding a five-fight winning streak with all of his professional bouts coming under the BFL banner. Most recently he fought back-to-back fights against UFC vets Shonie Carter and DaMarques Johnson. At BFL 27, he beat “Mr. International” via third round TKO and at BFL 30, Dwyer finished Johnson via second round TKO in a bloody back and forth battle.
Garcia (12-1) is on a six-fight winning streak, with two of those inside the UFC. “The Dominican Nightmare” made his promotional debut at UFC Fight Night 33 where he knocked out Ben Wall 43-seconds into the very first round. He followed up with a split decision victory in his sophomore performance against Sean Spencer at UFC 171 in March.
The Dwyer vs. Garcia bout will likely take place on the preliminary portion of the UFC 176 fight card.
UFC 176 goes down on August 2 from the Staples Center in Los Angeles California. In the main event Jose Aldo will put his featherweight title on the line against Chad Mendes.
