While all eyes were fixed on the Irish fighters at UFC Fight Night 46, an interesting battle between two of the 125-lbs division’s top talents also took the spotlight on Saturday night’s main card agenda.
UFC Fight Night 46 Results: Ian McCall tops Brad Pickett in 125-lbs encounter
Ian McCall took on Brad Pickett in a match-up that had title implications, and it was McCall who conjured up a slip-and-out game plan that eventually garnered him a lopsided decision triumph.
McCall did well to stay out of range and avoid Pickett’s well-known knockout power, and instead used his immaculate footwork to land strikes and takedowns of his own.
Although both fighters chanced upon the grappling game on multiple occasions, it was McCall’s takedown offense that scored points on the judges’ scorecards. He racked up a total tally of 30-27, 30-27, 29-28 to garner his second victory in the octagon.
The 32-year-old is now on a two-fight winning streak and just might be the next in line for champ Demetrious Johnson’s strap should Johnson get past Chris Cariaso later this year.
