UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones had a very unlucky training session – he suffered a leg injury in training, so he will not be able to fight in the UFC 178 title event on September 27th, according to the latest information on UFC.com. The title fight between him and Daniel Cormier is put on hold until January 3rd. The fight will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Can UFC 178 survive without Jones?

The main event of the UFC 178 was changed to the showdown between Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson and Chris Cariaso, originally programmed to take place on the 30th of August, during UFC 177 in Sacramento.

Jonathan Dwight “Jon” Jones is a 27 year old American mixed martial arts fighter, currently the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion. He won the title in 2011 – he became the youngest fighter ever to get the belt in UFC history. Despite his age, Jon Jones is considered one of the best fighters the sport has ever seen.

Before ending up in the UFC, Jones has tried himself in many sports, both fighting and competitive ones. He was a state champion highschool wrestler in his early years, and heal sotried football – he played as a defensive line manduring his high school years. This was the time he got his nick name – Bones – because of his light frame.

Jones has started his career in MMA in April 2008 – he started hiscareer with six wins in a row in three months. His performance put him in theat tention of UFC – he was asked to take a fight in July 2008. The first UFC fight Bones was involved in happened at the UFC 87, in August 2008. He won his first match, and his second, and almost all of his 21 fights until today. His only loss on record is due to disqualification – he used illegal downwardel bow strikes in his fight against Matt Hamill in the 2009 The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights Finale.

Jones won the Light Heavyweight Championship at the UFC 128, in March 2011, and he has managed to keep it until today. He would have fought to defend his title on September 27th, in UFC 178 – we would have had the chance to witness another great fight, was it not for the injury suffered by the athlete in training.

Jones has a somewhat unorthodox fighting style, mixing Greco-Roman Wrestling, Freestyle Wrestling, Mua yThai and Gaidojutsu, a martial art combining rudimentary wrestling and kickboxing techniques with judo lockdowns.
