Felipe Arantes vs. Andre Fili added to UFC 179

UFC 179 gets another native of Brazil on the card in the form of Felipe Arantes as he takes on Andre ‘Touchy’ Fili.

UFC officials confirmed the fight late Wednesday.

Arantes (16-6-1) is 3-2-1 since joining the UFC in 2011. All 6 of those fights took place in Brazil. He was unsuccessful in his UFC debut dropping a decision to bantamweight contender Alcântara. He bounced back with a decision victory over the Canadian Antonio Carvalho. Since then he has drawn with Milton Vieira, and dropped a split decision to Kevin Souza. Since his first UFC victory he has also seen victory against Maximo Blanco and Godofredo Pepey, the latter being a nasty TKO finish.

Fili (13-2) is a product of Team Alpha Male. Two fight into his UFC career, he made his debut on late notice aginst Jeremy Larsen at UFC 166 and looked absolutely dominant en route to a second round TKO finish. After a successful UFC debut, he got a big step-up in the form of Max Holloway. Unfortunately for Fili this wouldn’t end well for him as he tasted defeat for the first time since 2010 after being submitted by the Hawaiian in the third round.

The fights placement on the fight card is unknown at this time.

UFC 179 is expected to take place on October  25 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil at the Maracanãzinho Gymnasium.
