UFC Fight Night 56 now has a headliner in the form of Brazilian legend Shogun Rua as he takes on Englishman Jimi Manuwa in a fight that is sure to please the Brazilian fans.
UFC officials confirmed the bout late Saturday evening.
Shogun (22-9) will be looking to rebound following a loss to Dan Henderson in March. Though Shogun was dominating the fight for the most part, rocking Henderson multiple times, Rua would fall victim to the devastating power of Dan Henderson early in round 3. The fight would earn him and Henderson ‘Fight of the Night’ honors. Before this he was coming off of a devastating knockout win over James Te Huna in Australia. Following the one minute knockout win, Shogun would receive ‘Knockout of the Night’.
Manuwa (14-1) is a former UCMMA light heavyweight champion, winning the belt five fights into his career ad defending it five times before moving to BAMMA. One fight into his BAMMA career he would get the call from the UFC. He started off his UFC career 3-0 with (T)KO wins over Diabate, Jimmo and Kingsbury, and would suffer defeat for the first time at the hands of Alexander Gustafsson in London, England in March. Much like Shogun, Manuwa is also looking to bounce back from a knockout defeat in their backyard.
Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua vs. Jimi ‘Poster Boy’ Manuwa will be the main event on the card.
UFC Fight Night 56 is set to take place on November 8 in Uberlândia, Brazil at the Ginásio Municipal Tancredo Neves.
