Bellator 129 gets a fun heavyweight fight between English slugger James Thompson and 42 year old Houston Alexander.
Bellator officials announced the bout late Monday.
Thompson (20-14-1) may not be the most skilled fighter of all time, but he sure is fun to watch. With 18 finishes in those 20 wins, you know Thompson is coming to fight every time he steps into the cage. He made his Bellator debut in June, starching Bellator vet Eric Prindle en route to a first round TKO stoppage. This was the 11th (T)KO of his career. Following the defeat, Prindle was released from the organization.
Alexander (16-10-2) has spent most of his career fighting at light heavyweight, but he isn’t totally unfamiliar with the heavyweight division. He has had one ‘official’ heavyweight fight against Sherman Pendergarst at Adrenaline MMA IV in 2009. He finished the fight in under two minutes via leg kicks followed up by punches. He is 1-1 since joining Bellator in late 2013, losing his debut to Matyushenko via decision, and finishing Matt Uhde via doctor stoppage at Bellator 117 in April.
This fight will take place on the televised portion of the card.
Bellator 129 is expected to take place on October 17 at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
