UFC on FOX 13 gets a very interesting welterweight fight between both UFC & Bellator veterans; Joe ‘Diesel’ Riggs and Ben ‘Killa B’ Saunders.
UFC officials announced the fight late Monday.
Riggs (40-14-1) may only be 31 years old, but he is a veteran of MMA having fought for the UFC, Bellator, ProElite, WEC, Strikeforce and King of the Cage to name a few. Riggs most recently won season one of Bellator MMA’s ‘Fight Master’, defeated Mike Bronzoulis via decision at Belator 106. Riggs went on to leave Bellator ad re-sign with the UFC a few months back, set to face Paulo Thiago in Brazil earlier this month. He pulled out of the bout after getting injured while cleaning his gun and would get replaced by Mike Rhodes.
Saunders (17-6-2) returned to the UFC this past August in spectacular fashion, submitting Chris Heatherly in the first round with an omoplata, the first of it’s kind in the UFC. Before this, Saunders was on a 10 fight stint in Bellator, going 7-3. In his last fight with the promotion he would get knocked out by champ Douglas Lima, who also knocked him out in 2011, ending his 3 fight win streak in Bellator.
The bout is expected to take place on the televised prelim portion of the card.
UFC on FOX 13 is expected to take place on December 13 in Phoenix, Arizona and will be headlined by a heavyweight clash between Junior dos Santos and Stipe Miocic.
