A flyweight tilt has been added to the fourth-quarter “big FOX” card. Jussier Formiga and John Moraga are set to get at it at UFC on FOX 13 in Phoenix later this year.
UFC officials announced the bout matchup on Monday night.
Formiga (17-3) last defeated Zach Makovsky at UFC Fight Night 47 in August, improving his current win streak to two. His last defeat was handed to him just over a year ago from top flyweight Joseph Benavidez. If he beats Moraga, he’ll definitely be in title contention.
Moraga (15-3) who is a former title challenger, most recently submitted Justin Scoggins at UFC Fight Night 50, which was an impressive upset and got him back into the win column. Prior to that he suffered a loss to John Dodson earlier this summer. Although he has already lost to the champion Demetrious Johnson, a win over the elite flyweight fighter could possibly set him up for a No. 1 Contenders fight, depending how things work out in the division in the near future.
The bout will most likely be on the preliminary portion of the card.
UFC on FOX 13 takes place at the U.S. Airways Center in Phoenix, AZ on Dec. 13. It is headlined by a heavyweight matchup featuring former champion Junior dos Santos and Stipe Miocic in a 5-round fight.
