A couple of days ago UFC featherweight Conor McGregor announced that he was going to move up a weight-class and take on Diego Sanchez at UFC 180, however, UFC President Dana White squashed that bout. It now sounds like Sanchez has a new opponent set and that’s none other than bonus king Joe Lauzon.

UFC officials have yet to announce the fight, but Lauzon hinted at it on his official Facebook page.

Lauzon (24-9) returned to action at UFC Fight Night 50, where he bloodied up Michael Chiesa and earned the doctor’s stoppage. The bout earned him ‘Fight of the Night’ honors and another $50,000 bonus. This was Lauzon’s second win in a row, prior to the Chiesa victory, he defeated Mac Danzig at UFC on FOX 9.

Sanchez (25-7) won a bizarre split-decision in his last outing against Ross Pearson. The winner of The Ultimate Fighter Season 1 has bounced around with wins and losses over the last couple of years. Prior to the Pearson win, he was riding a two-fight losing skid, with losses to Myles Jury and Gilbert Melendez.

UFC 180 goes down on November 15 from the Arena Ciudad de México in Mexico City, Mexico. In the main event, Cain Velasquez will put his heavyweight title on the line against Fabricio Werdum.
