WSOF gets it’s third title fight. In what could be a fight of the year contender, Justin Gaethje will defend his lightweight title against Melvin Guillard at WSOF 15.
WSOF officials confirmed the bout on Monday.
Gaethje (12-0) is the second most dominant fighter in the World Series of Fighting. With a record of 5-0 within the promotion, he sits only behind bantamweight champion Marlon Moraes who has amassed a record of 6-0. A talented wrestler who trains out of Grudge Training Center, Gaethje is one of the most heavy handed fighters in the 155 lb division. He has ten knockouts to his name with all five of his WSOF contests ending via knockout. Within the company, he holds KO wins over Nick Newell, Rich Patishnock, Dan Lauzon, Brian Cobb and Gesias Cavalcante.
Guillard (32-13-2, 2 NC) is a veteran of mixed martial arts and holds the record for the most (T)KO victories in the UFC’s lightweight division. Guillard made his World Series of Fighting debut in July, stopping Gesias Cavalcante via TKO in round two. Gaethje defended his title against Nick Newell on the same card. Much like Gaethje, Guillard is known for his knockout power having finished 21 opponents with strikes.
This fight will be the co-main event of the evening, second to the middleweight title fight between David Branch and Yushin Okami.
WSOF 15 is set to take place in Tampa Bay, Florida at the USF Sun Dome. It will take place on November 15, which is the same night as UFC 180 and Bellator 131.
