Virgil Zwicker will replace James ‘The Colossus’ Thompson against Houston Alexander later this week in Iowa.
Bellator officials announced the new fight on Sunday. Thompson pulling out of the fight was announced a few days prior.
Zwicker (12-4) is known for his finishing ability having finished 11 of his 12 victories with 9 (T)KO and 2 submission wins. His most notable victories are over Ovince St. Preux and Mike Hayes, finishing both via (T)KO. He is coming off a loss to (now) title challenger; Linton Vassell. Before this Zwicker knocked out Mike Hayes at KSW 25 in the first round.
Alexander (16-10, 1NC) is also known for his ability to finish fights having finished 14 of his 16 victories with 11 (T)KO and 3 submission wins. Amongst the names that Alexander has finished are Razak Al-Hassan, Sokoudjou, Sherman Pendergarst, Alessio Sakara and Keith Jardine. He made his Bellator debut in late 2013 and would taste defeat at the hands of ‘The Janitor’ Vladimir Matyushenko via decision. He rebounded with a (T)KO win over Matt Uhde at Bellator 127 in April.
This fight will be televised on Spike TV as part of the Bellator 129 main card.
Bellator 129 is set to take place later this week on October 17 at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The card will be headlined by a welterweight fight between Josh Neer and Paul Bradley.
