Former UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre has been cleared to resume training. Seven-months ago, St-Pierre tore his ACL and was forced to undergo surgery and rehab.
UFC President Dana White confirmed the news on St-Pierre to UFC.com
“They cleared GSP’s knee,” White told UFC.com. “After surgery like that it still takes about another 30 days before you start to mentally feel right. But he’s in a good spot.”
According to The Province, White and Lorenzo Fertitta travelled to Montreal to speak with the Tristar product and the meeting went well.
“His knee just got cleared and he’ll start training again and getting back into shape,” White said. “He’ll let us know when he’s ready.”
The last time fans saw “Rush” inside the UFC Octagon was in November of last year when he defeated Johny Hendricks in a five-round war at UFC 167 to retain the 170-pound gold. Following that fight, the 33-year-old decided to take a step away from the sport and think about his future.
Only time will tell what’s next for St-Pierre, but if he were to return to the UFC, then expect a spring arrival.
