Bellator interested in Fedor Emelianenko

|

Scott Coker has made it clear that Bellator is interested in every major MMA free agent. One of those is former PRIDE and Strikeforce fighter Fedor Emelianenko.

On New Years Eve, Coker will be in Japan for Inoki Bom-Ba-Ye 2014 and he expects to have a discussion with “The Last Emperor” regarding his MMA future.

In a recent interview with Sherdog, Coker discussed his New Years Eve plans.

“I’ve heard mixed signals,” said Coker. “The last time I talked to [his people], they were basically saying he’s retired and he’s working for the government supporting MMA, and the growth of MMA in Russia. I’m going to the New Year’s Eve show in Japan, so I’ll be over there and I’ll be talking to him and seeing if there’s any interest.”

Emelianenko (34–4, 1NC) is widely considered the best ever, however his run with the Strikeforce promotion didn’t go his way. He went 1-3 under the Strikeforce banner, but since leaving the now defunct organization, the Russian has gone 3-0.

Following his last victory, a first round knockout of Pedro Rizzo in 2012, Emelianenko announced his retirement in front of his home country of Russia.
