Two title bouts have been added to UFC 187, as UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones is set to take on Anthony Johnson, and UFC middleweight titleholder Chris Weidman is set to take on Vitor Belfort.
The matchups were announced on UFC Tonight.
Jones-Johnson, Weidman-Belfort added to UFC 187
Jones (21-1) most recently defended his belt for the eighth time against Daniel Cormier in the headliner of UFC 182 last month. Prior to that, he dominated Glover Texeira in April 2014.
Johnson (19-4) has looked amazing since returning to the promotion, with a decision over Phil Davis, and two stoppage wins over ‘Lil Nog’ and Alexander Gustafsson.
Weidman (12-0) defeated Anderson Silva in 2013 for the belt, and since then has defended his belt twice, including a ‘Fight of the Year’ candidate win over Lyoto Machida.
Belfort (24-10) hasn’t competed in the Octagon since late 2013, when he stopped Dan Henderson in round one. Prior to that, he stopped Luke Rockhold and Michael Bisping.
UFC 187 takes place live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on May 23.
