On April 25, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson is expected to take on Fabio Maldonado on the main card of UFC 186. Since being re-signed by the UFC, his former employer, Bellator has kept fairly quiet. That is until now.
On Monday, Bellator announced that they will be going to court in order to stop “Rampage” from fighting next month. Stating that he has only fulfilled half of his six-fight contract with the organization.
Bellator files lawsuit to stop Quinton Jackson from fighting at UFC 186
“Today, Bellator MMA was compelled to go to court to stop Quinton “Rampage” Jackson from fighting in an April 25th bout promoted by Bellator’s competitor, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Jackson, who has completed only three fights of his exclusive six-fight contract with Bellator, is barred by contract from fighting for any promoter other than Bellator. Our lawsuit for an injunction and related relief – filed in the Chancery Division of the Superior Court in Burlington County, New Jersey – will compel Jackson to honor his contractual agreement. We look forward to having one of our MMA stars fighting for Bellator again.”
Jackson (34-11) signed with Bellator in 2013 and went 3-0 inside the promotion. Two of his victories came by knockout and most recently he took home a controversial decision against Muhammed Lawal.
On December 20, during the UFC Fight Night 58 broadcast, it was announced that the former light heavyweight champion had been re-signed by the organization.
