A middleweight bout has been added to Mexico’s UFC 188, as Kelvin Gastelum is moving up to 185-pounds (forced) and will face Nate Marquardt.
UFC officials announced the matchup on Tuesday.
Gastelum lost his first professional MMA fight in his last outing, against top welterweight contender Tyron Woodley. He severely missed weight at the UFC 183 weigh-ins in January, and the promotion has forced him to move up. Since winning The Ultimate Fighter 17, he has picked up wins over the likes of Rick Story and Jake Ellenberger.
Kelvin Gastelum vs Nate Marquardt set for UFC 188
Marquardt moved back up to middleweight last year and squared off with James Te Huna in New Zealand. He picked up a first-round submission win. Since then, he’s dropped a decision loss to Brad Tavares at UFC 182 in January.
The card placement for the bout is unknown, but the matchup will likely be featured on the main card.
UFC 188 takes place live from Mexico City Arena in Mexico City, Mexico on June 13. In the main event, heavyweight champ Cain Velasquez takes on interim titleholder Fabricio Werdum.
