A pivotal light heavyweight bout has been confirmed as the headliner of June’s Berlin show, as Alexander Gustafsson is set to take on Glover Teixeira at UFC Fight Night 69.
Following an initial report on kimura.se, UFC President Dana White confirmed the matchup on early Monday morning, with mmacrazytv.com. To remain in title contention at 205-pounds, both men need a win here.
Alexander Gustafsson vs Glover Teixeira headlines UFC Fight Night 69 in Berlin
Gustafsson (16-3) is coming off a shocking first-round stoppage loss to top contender Anthony Johnson at UFC on FOX 14 last January, in his home turf of Stockholm, Sweden. He fought for the title against Jon Jones back in 2013, and in the ‘Fight of the Year’, he gave Jones his toughest test to date. He rebounded with a TKO win over Jimi Manuwa just over a year ago, before he suffered the loss to ‘Rumble’.
Teixeira (22-4) hasn’t picked up a win since he earned a title shot against Jones back in 2013, with a TKO over Ryan Bader. Following that, he was dominated for five rounds against the titleholder, losing a lopsided decision at UFC 172. A decision loss to Phil Davis followed that up, in October.
UFC Fight Night 69 takes place live from The 02 World Berlin in Berlin, Germany on June 20. The entire card is expected to exclusively stream live on UFC Fight Pass. No other matchups have been announced for this event.
