Jon Jones was stripped of his UFC light heavyweight championship and it was immediately announced that Daniel Cormier would step in to take on Anthony Johnson in the main event at UFC 187.
Daniel Cormier opens as slight favorite over Anthony Johnson
According to Bodog.ca, Cormier is coming in as a slight favorite against Johnson despite losing his last outing to Jones. “DC” is a -150 (2/3) favorite, with “Rumble” a +120 (6/5) under dog.
Cormier (15-1) was undefeated as a mixed martial artist until last month, when he was defeated by champ Jon Jones in a highly anticipated title fight at UFC 182. Prior to that, he picked up wins over Dan Henderson and Patrick Cummins at 205-pounds, and also the likes of Roy Nelson at heavyweight.
Johnson (19-4) has looked amazing since returning to the promotion, with a decision over Phil Davis, and two stoppage wins over ‘Lil Nog’ and Alexander Gustafsson.
UFC 187 takes place live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on May 23 and also features a battle for the UFC middleweight championship, as Chris Weidman faces Vitor Belfort.
