UFC officials announced the matchup on Friday afternoon.

O’Connell (17-6) had a rocky beginning to his UFC career — in his debut, he was knocked out by Canadian Ryan Jimmo in the first-round. He put on a ‘Fight of the Night’ performance against Gian Villante in New Zealand just over a year ago, but still dropped a split-decision. In a must-win situation, he picked up $50,000 for another ‘Fight of the Night’ against Matt Van Buren but was on the winning end. In his last outing, he picked up arguably the biggest win of his career, a quick first-round TKO over Anthony Perosh.

Cirkunov (9-2) has already fought twice in 2015 with two first-round stoppages in Hard Knocks Fighting Championship. Seven of nine of the Xtreme Couture product’s wins come by way of a form of finish.

The card placement for the bout is unknown at this time.

UFC Fight Night 74 takes place live from the SaskTel Center in Saskatoon, SK, Canada on Aug. 23. In the main event, UFC featherweight contender Max Holloway takes on Charles Oliveira.
