Francis Carmont vs. Philipe Lins tournament reserve bout set for ‘Dynamite 1’

|

Bellator MMA has announced a reserve bout for their light heavyweight tournament at ‘Dynamite 1’ and it features UFC veteran Francis Carmont taking on rising Brazilian Philipe ‘Monstro’ Lins.

Scott Coker announced the news on The MMA Road Show on Thursday.

Carmont (23-10) is 1-0 since joining Bellator in 2015, picking up a dominant decision victory over Guilherme Viana. Prior to the Bellator signing, the former training partner of Georges St. Pierre went 6-3 in the UFC, with all three losses coming consecutively at the end of his UFC run, which lead to his release.

Lins (9-1) is 2-1 in Bellator and is coming off a very unfortunate injury loss to Kelly Anundson in the semi-finals of the Bellator 2014 Summer Series light heavyweight tournament. Before the loss he picked up two first round finishes in the Bellator cage. This will be his first fight in over a year.

This bout will be on the undercard of the Dynamite show, acting as a reserve bout for the light heavyweight tournament featuring Davis, Lawal, Newton and Vassell.

‘Bellator 142: Dynamite’ is set to take place at the SAP Center in San Jose on September 19. It will see Bellator and Glory co-promote for the first time. Bellator’s portion will see the previously mentioned light heavyweight tournament as well as a main event that sees current light heavyweight champion Liam McGeary defending against MMA legend and UFC hall-of-famer Tito Ortiz. The other MMA fight on the card sees former Strikeforce champion Josh Thomson make his Bellator debut against Mike Bronzoulis.
