Liam McGeary made the first defense of his Bellator Light Heavyweight Title against Tito Ortiz at Bellator 142 this evening, and made the most of it. After a feeling out period that saw the Brit look better than the veteran Ortiz on the feet, McGeary was taken down. The LHW champ would not be denied, though. Defending well against Ortiz’ vaunted ground and pound, McGeary was able to first secure an armbar from guard – which elicited a quick tap from “The Huntington Beach BadBoy” outside of referee “Big” John McCarthy’s line of sight – and then seal the deal with a fight-ending inverted triangle choke shortly afterwards and retain his Bellator Light Heavyweight Title in the first round.
