With the first card of the 2016 calendar behind us, the year has begun. This brings us to a new feature, the MMASucka Q&A.
UFC 195 went down this past Saturday and it left us with a bang. Robbie Lawler and Carlos Condit fought in a five-round war to close out the evening, with Lawler retaining his UFC welterweight championship.
MMASucka Q&A #1: UFC 200 and MMA Media
Now that the year has officially begun and there are plenty of cards and stuff to talk about, let the first ever Q&A begin.
Trevor Morgan: How many title fights will be at UFC 200 ?
The debate is definitely out there for what UFC 200 will bring us. I have yet to hear what the UFC has planned, but all is pinning to an epic evening of fights. In my personal opinion, I think it will have at least two title fights on the card, maybe even three. With the way the UFC calendar is prior to the epic event in July it is tough to say whether they will be champion heavy or whether they will focus on marquee match-ups. With Dillashaw vs. Cruz going down this month, the winner of that could be scheduled, as could the winner of Werdum vs. Velasquez which goes down early next month. With no other title fights planned and the possibility of Jon Jones vs. Daniel Cormier going down in April, really who knows if either of them will be ready for UFC 200. The two names that we all know the UFC wants on the card are — Conor McGregor and Ronda Rousey. My guess is they keep McGregor fairly clean up until that event. What do you think Trevor?
Rod Wingrove: What is your opinion on the state of MMA journalism these days and where do you see Sucka stacking up against some of the “big” sites and podcasts?
Good question Rod. MMA journalism is a real iffy spot for me. There are some fantastic journalists out there these days, that go above and beyond what most do. And I don’t mean travel from UFC to UFC covering the big boys. I mean guys going out of their way to get stories out there, writing long-form pieces that mean a lot to the sport and doing some investigative stuff that not a lot of people want to do, because their hands get too dirty. A lot of what’s going on these days is called “click-bait” and it does make perfect sense to me, as a site owner I do see that click-bait articles generate traffic, which in turn generates profit. You won’t see many of these types of articles on MMASucka though. Other stuff we see, which you mentioned, are articles being written based on other peoples interviews from either radio shows or podcasts. This is another easy way out. Now if “A fighter” says something mind blowing on another show, we will write about it. However if someone talks about someone else’s mom or what type of sex they like, you won’t find that on this site. How does Sucka stack up with these other “big” sites or podcasts? I’d say we hold our own. We try to be a little different. Yes, you will find a ton of the UFC news, rumors and fight results, but we try to have a few niche things as well. Those being the fact that we still stay true to British Columbia, where I am from and founded the site, as we have a thriving MMA scene, so I wanted that to keep it’s place on the site. Also you will find that we have been throwing up a ton of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu stuff as of late as well and that is something you don’t really find on other MMA sites. As for the podcast, I’d like to think that we try to not get the average guest that every other podcast or radio show out there is. We’ve had Academy Award winners, TV stars and many others that aren’t “the same old thing.” I didn’t really mean to ramble on, but I hope that answered your question.

There were a couple of other questions that were posed, however these were the two I took for the first edition.
That’s it for now. We will do another Q&A on Sunday next week and the post will be published on Monday.
If you have questions for the next Q&A keep it locked to my Facebook page or put them in the comments below and I might use them for the next edition.
