In Anthony “Showtime” Pettis’ first fight back since losing the UFC Lightweight Title to Rafael dos Anjos, the Rufusport representative went toe to toe with former Bellator 155 lbs. kingpin Eddie Alvarez in the penultimate bout of UFC Fight Night 81. Alvarez followed the Clay Guida blueprint, taking space away from Pettis and pinning him against the cage in the TD Garden Arena in Boston, MA while working for takedowns. It was a close bout, however, with Pettis unleashing his precision stand-up whenever he had the opportunity. It was – at least in the eyes of two of the judges – for naught, as Eddie Alvarez was awarded the split decision victory.
